General News

·         Don’t forget the change of venue and dates for our upcoming monthly meetings.  Please look at the Diary Dates page at the end of the newsletter for the changes.  It is very important that all members note these changes.  Basically we will be meeting in the GREVILLIA ROOM and on the THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH

·         Don’t forget our Christmas in July celebration in the Grevillia room on the 16th July 2003.  It will commence at 11.00am and promises to be a great day so come and join us with the festive spirit.

·         Many thanks to our guest speaker last month, Cathy, from the Aged Care Help Service.  This proved to be a most informative topic.  It was such a pity that hardly anyone came along to listen to the very wise information that was given to us. Once again the club committee would like to strongly urge ALL club members to attend our monthly meetings, as we would like to have a very active social club as well as just a teaching club.  Please come, one and all and support our guest speakers as we attempt to have speakers who give us very relevant information, which will help us in our future.

·         Seven club members will attend a train the trainer’s course in Parramatta on 21 August 2003.  They are Greg Kirwin, Merv Blyth, Don Stevens, Bob Lewis, Wilf Morman, Les Anderson and Kevin Horne.

·         Michael Warner, our new club tech, will upgrade the club computers this week.  It is hoped that they will then be more than perfect.

·         Club students should note that in the coming we are trialling a new system with the course notes.  At the beginning of each course now ALL the notes will be given out to the students at the beginning of the course and this will be better if students miss some days for whatever reason.

·         The Basic Computing course will be coordinated by Annie Oke and will run for 10 weeks only from this semester on.

·         Wendy Nordfeldt and the committee members have worked very hard during the break to bring all another successful semester so we all hope you have a great term learning new skills.

PALS NEWS

·         Long standing and well loved Computer Pal, Wanda Day, has had a run of extremely bad health recently.  Wanda contacted Chatterbox recently to let readers know that she had a recent heart attack and was hospitalised in Baulkham Hills Hospital.  Whilst in hospital she had to undergo an angiogram which unfortunately resulted in a large bleed from the femoral artery.  She describes the most picturesque colouration of her body from the navel to the knee - most of the colours of the rainbow at any given time.  Sadly this has caused Wanda a great deal of distress in walking.  The angiogram showed that she had three blocked arteries, which are currently being treated medically.  Wanda, you are a much revered and loved founding member of Computer Pals for Seniors - Holroyd and we all wish you a speedy recovery as we all miss your wonderful smiling face, not to mention your wicked wit.

·        Meg Winks has also been besieged by numerous medical problems recently - the predominant challenge has been with out of control blood pressure which has had a life of its own recently and has resulted in the necessity of many tests being undertaken.  Meg sincerely apologises for not being able to attend some classes prior to the break and workshops during the break and hopes that all went well.  Meg still has to take things very slowly for a few more weeks but will be back on deck as soon as she can.
